Name: Union Inn Site
Location: Regatta Park, Emu Plains, New South Wales
Constructed between 1854 and 1858 as one of a group of inns fronting the Great Western Highway, the former Union Inn was a single storey rendered, sandstock brick building with a front elevation of brick noggin construction and a hipped roof and front verandah contained within the main roof form. Later extended and used as a guest house, known as Nepean Lodge, the building had been abandoned by the 1980s, and the site had become overgrown.
A Heritage Interpretation Plan was prepared for the retention and interpretation of the standing ruins of the building as part of the broader Regatta Park Masterplan for Penrith City Council. A strategy was subsequently developed to stabilise the surviving walls of the original brick building, interpret the location of doors and windows and room configuration, and install signage, lighting and seating areas, drainage and landscaping works.
