Name: Willoughby Heritage Study Review
Location: Naremburn, Castlecrag and other locations, New South Wales
LSJ undertook an assessment of the potential heritage significance of an area in Naremburn located between two existing Heritage Conservation Areas, as well as 15 individual items located throughout the greater Willoughby LGA, for Willoughby City Council.
Following historical research, site inspections, a comparative analysis and assessment of significance, the report recommended a total of thirteen new individual heritage items, including a number of landscape elements that formed part of the original plan for the suburb of Castlecrag designed by Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahoney Griffin. In addition, a new heritage conservation area was recommended, the Naremburn Civic Centre HCA.
These types of studies are regularly commissioned by local councils to fine tune their heritage listings under their Local Environmental Plans and assist in future strategic planning.
