Name: Enmore Post Office
Location: Enmore, Sydney, New South Wales
Constructed in 1895 to a design by the Government Architect’s office under Walter Liberty Vernon, the Enmore Post Office building ceased operation in the mid-1990s despite protestations by the local community. Over time, this fine Federation Queen Anne style building, although remaining highly intact, slowly deteriorated. Despite its abandoned air, being sited at the crest of a hill, this interesting and decorative building continues to be a visual landmark.
As part of changing ownership arrangements, LSJ undertook an assessment of significance to determine its heritage value based on its condition and integrity after years of disuse, and a feasibility study into a range of potential new uses and development opportunities for the building that would ensure its long term future and conserve the significance of the place.
